Zambia Stage Sensational Comeback to Beat South Africa in COSAFA Cup Semi-Finals

In a thrilling semi-final clash at the 2023 HollywoodBets COSAFA Cup, the Zambia national team showcased their resilience and determination as they overcame a goal deficit to defeat hosts South Africa..

The victory secured their spot in the final against Lesotho, which will take place on Sunday.

The match began with Chipolopolo, Zambia's national team, making an energetic start in the first half. Albert Kangwanda, a standout player from Red Arrows, tested Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela with a powerful shot from inside the box, forcing a remarkable save. However, despite Zambia's efforts, it was South Africa who broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. Striker Tshegofatso Mabasa capitalized on a rebound after Chipolopolo goalkeeper Francis Mwansa made an impressive save to deny Lesedi Kapinga's long-range shot.

At halftime, Zambia looked disjointed and in need of a quick and impactful response to revive their hopes of defending their regional tournament title, which they won last year in Durban. Manager Moses Sichone rallied his team, making necessary adjustments during the break.

The second half began with an immediate response from Chipolopolo. Just four minutes after the restart, Golden Mashata found the back of the net from close range with a deflected shot, equalizing the score. Buoyed by the goal, Zambia continued their pursuit of redemption and dominance in the match.

In the 69th minute, Albert Kangwanda once again displayed his brilliance, unleashing a spectacular strike from a free kick that left the South African goalkeeper helpless. Kangwanda's goal proved to be the decisive moment of the match, propelling Chipolopolo to a well-deserved victory.

With the win, Zambia has earned the opportunity to defend their crown and secure a record-breaking seventh COSAFA Cup title. The final showdown against Lesotho will take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday. Lesotho's Likuena booked their spot in the final after defeating Malawi 3-0 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the other semi-final match played earlier in the day.

Chipolopolo's impressive comeback victory against South Africa sets the stage for an enthralling final clash against Lesotho, as both teams vie for the coveted COSAFA Cup trophy. Football enthusiasts around the region eagerly anticipate what promises to be a fiercely contested and memorable encounter between these two formidable sides.
